Seven Good Samaritans were awarded the Community Lifesaver Award!
/in Article/by Naomi LumOn 30th May 2021, when Mr Loy Kwong Choy was jogging, he witnessed a jogger who had suffered a cardiac arrest and collapsed. Nearby, Lifeguards, Mr Mohammad Azhar Abdullah Sani, Mr Mohamad Noriman Bahtiar, and Mr Del Moro Dennis Ranido had heard shouts of help. Together with Mr Loy, they performed CPR and the use of AED on the man. Thanks to their efforts, the jogger was revived before the ambulance arrived!
In a second incident, Mr Andrew Chua, a SMRT station manager, saw a man who had a cardiac arrest and collapsed. He quickly rushes to the aid of the man. Mr Sheh Yusof Bin Mohamed Shaus who was nearby received a notification via the SCDF myResponder app of the incident. Together, they performed CPR and the use of AED on the unconscious man, and he regained consciousness before the ambulance arrived!
In the third incident, Mr Muhammad Nasiruddin Md Khalid noticed smoke coming out from the unit above him. Using the wet cloth to cover his mouth, he went into the unit and rescued the unconscious man out of his house with the help of his father-in-law!
Thank you to these seven good Samaritans who had stepped up to help save a life!

In light of the COVID-19 situation, can I perform CPR and use an AED on a cardiac arrest victim?
/in Article/by Naomi LumYES, YOU CAN! As advised by The Singapore Resuscitation and First Aid Council (SRFAC), you can step up and help to save a heart by performing CPR and use an AED to improve the overall chances of survival of the casualty.
If you witness someone who had collapsed, always remember to call 995 and stay on the line with the medical dispatcher who will be there to assist and guide you until the ambulance arrives.

Denmark’s Christian Eriksen was saved by CPR!
/in Article/by Naomi LumDuring the Euro 2020 opening match between Denmark and Finland, Denmark midfielder Christian Eriksen suffered a cardiac arrest and collapsed. Upon witnessing his collapse, the medic staff quickly performed CPR and use a defibrillator to resuscitate him.
Thanks to their efforts, Denmark midfielder Christian Eriksen survived and is in stable condition.

Bystander CPR and the use of AED helped to save his life!
/in Article/by Naomi LumAs Mr Gardner Yost, M.D., a resident physician, had just ended work, he witnessed an accident and pulled over his car to find the driver unconscious. Immediately, he opened the driver’s side door and checked his pulse. After realising a faint pulse, he pulled him out of the vehicle and performed CPR while instructing another bystander to call the ambulance. Soon after, first responders from the Ann Arbor Fire and Police departments arrived on the scene. They brought along an AED and used it, after the shock was delivered, they continued CPR until the ambulance arrived. Thanks to their efforts, Mr Wafi Thabateh survived!
